Parent Teacher Night

So tonight is Parent Teacher Night for one of the teens. He came home informing us that “Mr X-Teacher said that we will get extra credit on our next paper if you DON’T come to Parent-Teacher tonight ”.

Really? I get that “meet the creatures” is a chore that many teachers hate, but keep that feeling away from the children. This kind of statement makes me want to go and sit in front of him and ask him the most time-wasting questions just to show him he isn’t going to be giving the kids points for every quarter of an hour he saved by their folks not showing up.

So disturbed…

First thing that came to mind is that teen told this to you so that you don’t go and find out something he doesn’t want you to know :P

He must have been kidding!!! Come on, what kind of teacher would say that seriously?

  3. batya from NJ says:

Personally, if the teacher really did say it, I’m SURE he was joking (& if not I’d bring it up with the administration b/c that is totally unacceptable for a teacher to say that…then again, if he really is doing so well in that class, maybe you don’t need to meet that creature (i mean teacher ;)) unless you’re in the mood to “shep nachas” & my guess is that the teacher won’t mind if you show up b/c it’ll be an easy enough conference for the teacher & won’t take up too much of his precious time ;)!!

What kind of yeshivah has parent teacher night during pesach cleaning season?

  5. lady lock and load says:

your son should get extra EXTRA credit cause you blogged about it and made it into an educational experience.

  6. just thinking says:

I am sure it was a joke. Anyone knowing and working with teens can speak of the clamor for “extra credit”. It is my pet peeve. I never offer it, never give it- Do the best you can and move on. Life will not be giving extra credit. Don’t be so disturbed- joke with the teacher about what the child claimed
