WWYD – Text

So in the last couple of days I have received texts from a number that I do not recognize. The first one or two were just “Hi”. Today I got texted “Hey Baby” with a wink emoticon. I know it’s not the KoD. I have no clue who on earth this is.

I don’t want to engage this person in a back and forth – if I text back “who is this” then they know they have my attention. If I ignore it, the texts will keep on coming. I did look up the number on USA 411 and AnyWho and drew a blank.

What would you do? I can ignore it, it IS currently harmless….. but I don’t give out my cell number to anyone. If anything I give out my googlevoice – and these texts are to my cell # not the GV.

Just write “I think you have the wrong #”

I recommend the same as Philo. I ignored random texts until somebody told me he was going to be late for marching band and please tell mr. _____ blah blah blah. At that point (two or three texts in), I was willing to write back and say that he was writing to the wrong number.

& it may very well be a wrong number. How long have you had that number? It may have been this person’s ex boy/girl friend’s number several years ago but I agree with Philo’s advice above….

Isn’t there a way to instruct your carrier to block numbers?

Could be it was someone else’s # like an old girl friend

  6. Amy Jacobs says:

i’d call the number, and arrange to meet somewhere, and not show up.

then again, i have a bit of a nasty streak. i have been getting calls for a prize line. 603-366-2817, all from my local area code. if it wasn’t so random, i would wonder if someone is messing with me.

  7. Elayne says:

The area code could give you a clue. Did you try googling it?

SO i texted back wrong number.
“Isn’t this Amber from Skoo?” LOL

WTH is Skoo? School? And I aint no Amber!

  9. rachelli says:

have your hubby answer and the guy will not call back.

  10. IS says:

Could it be a from a premium number as a ploy to get you to call back and rack up charges?

I suspect this person doesn’t realize he or she is texting the wrong person. Just send back a simple, “I think you have the wrong number.” If it continues beyond that, you can file a report at the local police station for telecommunications harassment, and send the individual a text letting him or her know that you’ve done so.

Ah, just saw that you got a response. Glad it was just a mistake.
