Open Letter to Men – part two

We women would like to ask you to kindly think before you open your mouths. You know we are very into our appearance. You know that, and if you didn’t – what do you think we were doing staring in the mirror for so long and so often, primping and preening? Pointing out that we have a pimple on our face is extremely uncool. Do you honestly think we are so clueless as to not realize that Vesuvius Minor is erupting on our face? Do you think you are being helpful by pointing out the obvious? Telling us you thought we would want to know, is not a good save. Saying “oh I thought maybe it was a rash” – nope, doesn’t wash. Basically, you are saying, “you have a huge zit on your face and man, is it ugly!! So ugly and obvious, that I, your clueless male relative, have noticed it when I usually don’t notice a new haircut for six weeks.”

When you are eleven, and you point this out to your maternal unit, you’re lucky when you have older siblings to put you firmly in your place and teach you this very important lesson. Much safer for you, than to have that very same female parental unit teach you that lesson. Those brothers of yours learnt this lesson the hard way. That nasty intake of breath by your older brothers after the comment was made was oh so eloquent. I knew my facial integrity was going to be defended. Your future wives will thank me for teaching you all of these lessons.

As for you grown up men who have made such a comment (you know who you are) – learn your lesson. Never ever tell your woman she is fat, has a zit on her face, or her hair style doesn’t suit her. When in doubt, dear sirs, just tell her she is perfect for you, and take her out and buy her jewellery or dinner. Or both.

Please note, when your woman asks you why you didn’t tell her she had a hair growing out of her chin, or a pimple developing on her nose, do not tell her you know you are not allowed to mention it. Just tell her that you didn’t notice, because she is always beautiful to you. Do not ever quote your wife back at her. You cannot and will never win. Do I make myself clear?

  1. Mark says:

Are there any men out there that don’t know this stuff yet??????

  2. Just imagine if every woman had to be as sensitive in not upsetting a man about things that need to be fixed, undone chores, weight gain, inappropriate glances, and so on. And the only correct response is to buy him gadgets and a pizza.

    Hmmm…

While you are, of course, highly accurate, you’re also perpetuating a stereotype.

  3. NO! says:

Ne prenez pas votre cas pour une généralité.

Not all women think it is the end of the world when they have a pimple in the face.

    REally!

Not every woman spends 3 hours a day in front of a looking glass, possesses 100 pairs of uncomfortable shoes, and remembers exactely what she wore on the key events of her life.

In my view, you are rather exceptionnal and I personnally tend to avoid personal contact with this category of women, as far as possible.

    • Mark says:

My wife doesn’t do any of this, though my 8 year old daughter does already do some of them.

      • Z! says:

I may not stand infront of the mirror for hours but to be sure I have a definite idea of my body image and know what I feel about myself at any given time or day.
To be aware of one’s body does not require minute attention to detail and for sure a bad hair day; or pimple; or bloating are all things women can recognize in themselves at a moment’s notice.
It is for this reason that NO ONE ELSE need point it out.

  4. NO! says:

PS: I find the spirit of this rant about as stupid as the woman who will not tell her age to her own children.

  5. HSaboMilner says:

Have you never heard of the expression “tongue in cheek”? Sigh…..

  6. NO! says:

You make women look sooooo stupid in this rant.

    That’s why I dislike it.

  7. Lady Lock and Load says:

The only thing that is stupid is your comment, “NO”. Just my opinion.

  8. Chanief says:

NO!, Interesting that you’re bothering to comment on something that seems to disturb you so much. Maybe you should extend your avoidance of contact with this sort of woman to blogs as well? Just say “NO” to commenting on issues that raise your blood pressure, you’ll be happier and you’ll live longer.

A woman who likes to look good and feel good about herself is not necessarily self obsessed. I don’t need to spend three hours in front of a mirror to know when I have a pimple and to be annoyed at any of the male species who points it out to me. Right on as always, H ;)

  9. NO! says:

Well: the advantages of the blog are

    1) I do not need to see her
    2) I do not need to see her looking snobbishly down on anything that is not herself
    3) she does not only write about her superficial interests, but also about things that interest me, like life with 4 boys

So reading her blog works quite OK for me.

Except for the bitchy remarks of her “friends” “fans” or “disciples”

  10. Chanief says:

NO, I find # 2 of your points quite amusing. “2) I do not need to see her looking snobbishly down on anything that is not herself” Are you not doing exactly what you are accusing Hadassah of doing – being judmental and snobbish of someone different than yourself?
